Donald Trump: Many People Liked That I Said John McCain Wasn’t A War Hero
Apparently, if you’re poll numbers go up, it means you never have to say you’re sorry.
That was the message that Donald Trump sent on Wednesday morning during an interview with embalmed urban cowboy Don Imus. Appearing on Imus in the Morning, the presumptive GOP nominee and draft-dodging chickenhawk spoke about his comments last summer when he denigrated Sen. John McCain’s Vietnam War service, claiming he wasn’t a hero because he was captured.
Imus wanted to know if Trump was sorry for his comments. In typical Trumpspeak, the former reality TV star said he didn’t regret anything, that McCain was a hero, but that many people really liked what he had to say about the guy who spent seven years in a POW camp. He also pointed out (natch) that his poll numbers went up after his remarks.
From Buzzfeed’s article on the interview:
“Well I’ve actually done that, Don,” Trump replied. “You know frankly, I like John McCain, and John McCain is a hero. Also, heroes are people that are, you know, whether they get caught or don’t get caught — they’re all heroes as far as I’m concerned. And that’s the way it should be.”
“So do you regret saying that?” asked Imus.
“I don’t, you know — I like not to regret anything,” Trump said. “You do things and you say things. And what I said, frankly, is what I said. And some people like what I said, if you want to know the truth. There are many people that like what I said. You know after I said that, my poll numbers went up seven points.”
“You understand that, I mean, some people liked what I said,” added Trump. “I like John McCain, in my eyes John McCain is a hero. John McCain’s a good guy.”
It should be noted that while McCain was being tortured in the Hanoi Hilton, Trump received multiple deferments to avoid serving in the war. However, the Orange One has claimed that since he went to military school, he knows more than many soldiers. And, just in case you don’t think he’s dealt with real combat, he told Howard Stern that banging multiple women in the ’60s and ’70s and not catching any STDs was his own personal Vietnam War.
Of course, despite the fact that the stubby fingered silver-spooner shat all over his horrific real-life wartime experiences, McCain has said he will support Trump in the general election because he’s a good Republican. Meanwhile, the ex-Celebrity Apprentice host brags about how his followers loved that he pissed on a prisoner of war and actual war hero.
Nothing matters anymore. NOTHING.
