Trump’s National Security Advisor ‘Not Surprised’ Russia Would Help Sanders Since He ‘Honeymooned in Moscow’
National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien responded to reports that Russia is seeking to help Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign as well as that of President Donald Trump.
Appearing on ABC’s This Week, O’Brien said he wasn’t shocked by the news regarding the Independent senator from Vermont.
“That’s no surprise,” O’Brien told George Stephanopoulos. “He honeymooned in Moscow.”
Stephanopoulos then repeatedly pressed O’Brien about intelligence reports indicating that the Kremlin is aiming to boost Trump’s reelection campaign, but O’Brien claimed he has not seen them.
O’Brien tells @GStephanopoulos he has “not heard” U.S. intel that Russia is meddling in 2020 to help Trump, amid reports that the top election security official at DNI briefed lawmakers on the analysis: “If it’s out there, it hasn’t been shared with me.” https://t.co/kHUIBjiIBB pic.twitter.com/5ccCcnZhVL

Robert O’Brien repeatedly says he has “not seen” U.S. intel reports that Russia is meddling in 2020 to help Trump.@GStephanopoulos: “Don’t you have a responsibility as national security adviser to find out?”
O’Brien: “… I haven’t seen the intel.” https://t.co/kHUIBjiIBB pic.twitter.com/rbK7XEOe5f

“I haven’t seen any intelligence that Russia is doing anything to attempt to get President Trump reelected,” O’Brien insisted. “So if it’s out there, it’s something I haven’t seen.”
O’Brien then asserted that such findings wouldn’t “make any sense” to him because, as he put it, “Why would Russia want the president who has rebuilt the American military, who has given the Ukrainians lethal arms, javelin missiles and has sanctioned the Russians far more than any president in recent history, why would they want him reelected?”
