Fox’s Judge Andrew Napolitano: Trump Is ‘Clearly Guilty of a High Crime’ Despite Acquittal
Fox News’ judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano has written a new op-ed where he argues that President Donald Trump is still guilty of a high crime despite the fact that the Republican majority in the Senate. Napolitano has been an outlier on Fox News in his outspoken defense of impeachment.
Napolitano began his article by quoting George Orwell’s 1984, before launching into harsh criticism of Senate Republicans and Trump’s defense.
“When the command from Senate Republican leaders came down that there shall be no witnesses, the truth-telling mission of Trump’s trial was radically transformed into a steamroller of political power,” Napolitano wrote.
Napolitano described the Senate’ actions as ‘almost as if the states had ratified a constitutional amendment redefining the impeachment language to permit a president to engage in high crimes and misdemeanors so long as he believes that they are in the national interest and so long as his party has an iron-clad grip on the Senate.’
The Judge went on to explain what Trump had done and why it was both a crime and a high crime.
“The evidence that Trump did this is overwhelming and beyond a reasonable doubt, and no one with firsthand knowledge denied it,” he wrote.
The op-ed went on to condemn the actions of the Senate and tear apart the President’s defense team’s arguments.
“The personal victory for him is a legal assault on the Constitution,” he said, concluding: “Somewhere, Richard Nixon is smiling.”
