Mike Pompeo: ‘I Never Heard About’ Surveillance of Marie Yovanovitch, Don’t Know Lev Parnas
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has denied knowing anything about the alleged surveillance of former U.S. Ambassador Marie Yavonovitch. Speaking on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show on Friday, he also denied knowing Lev Parnas, the indicted associate of Rudy Giuliani.
“Never met him,” Pompeo said of Parnas.
Parnas has implicated Pompeo, among others, in the Ukraine quid pro quo scandal. The government of Ukraine has now opened an investigation into whether Yovanovitch was being surveilled – something strongly implied by newly released text messages.
Pompeo said he knew nothing about that, either.
“I never heard about this at all, Hugh,” the Secretary of State said. “Until the story broke, to the best of my recollection had never heard of this at all.”
Parnas claims that President Donald Trump tried to get Pompeo to fire Yovanovitch. The former ambassador removal from Ukraine was desired by the people from whom Giuliani was seeking help digging up dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden.
