Nancy Pelosi Asks Congress to Proceed with Articles of Impeachment Against Trump
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has asked Congress to proceed with articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump. The California Democrat gave a brief press conference where she cited the Founding Fathers and said Trump’s actions leave her with no choice but to press on.

“Our democracy is what is at stake,” Pelosi said. “The President leaves us no choice but to act.”
“If we allow a president to be above the law, we do so at the peril of our republic,” she said. “n America, no one is above the law.”
The Speaker said Trump has abused his power – a serious charge and, at least technically, an escalation in the ongoing impeachment inquiry.
Pelosi’s announcement was widely expected after weeks of public impeachment hearings about Trump’s actions regarding military aid to Ukraine. Witness after witness has raised the alarm and on Wednesday three legal scholars laid out the case for impeachable offenses.
Though there is not yet a clear timetable for preparing and voting on articles of impeachment in the House of Representatives, media reports suggest the matter could be concluded by 20 or 21 December, allowing for a trial in the Senate in early 2020.
