GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz: Impeachment Is ‘Kangaroo Court’ and Schiff’s ‘Acting Like a Malicious Captain Kangaroo’
Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz seems to think that the term ‘kangaroo court’ comes from the kids’ TV series Captain Kangaroo. Speaking to the media about the unfolding impeachment inquiry, Gaetz even compared House Intelligence Chair Adam Schiff to the eponymous title character.
“What we see in this impeachment is a kangaroo court and Chairman Schiff is acting like a malicious Captain Kangaroo,” Gaetz said.

Gaetz was referring to a tweet from earlier today from President Donald Trump. Trump compared the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives to a kangaroo court.
I would love to send Ambassador Sondland, a really good man and great American, to testify, but unfortunately he would be testifying before a totally compromised kangaroo court, where Republican’s rights have been taken away, and true facts are not allowed out for the public….

Captain Kangaroo ran on CBS from 1955 until 1984 and centered on the title character played by Bob Keeshan. It involved cartoons, puppets and various regular segments. The term ‘kangaroo court‘, by contrast, is of uncertain origin but dates to at least 1841, long before the TV show aired.
