Fox News Segment: UFOs Exist And Do Things ‘This World Is Not Capable Of’
Fox & Friends devoted a segment on Wednesday morning to the existence of UFOs and, by extension, extraterrestrial life. The Fox News flagship morning show usually sticks to attacking Democrats and defending President Donald Trump, but took a left turn into UFO conspiracies with gusto.
Christopher Mellon told Fox’s Brian Kilmeade in no uncertain terms that UFOs are real and we should be worried about them. Mellon was on Fox News to promote a History Channel documentary on navy sightings of UFOs. Mellon is a former Defense Department Assistant Secretary, while the History Channel is notorious for its Ancient Aliens series.
“We know that UFOs exist. This is no longer an issue,” Mellon said. “The Navy itself has publicly acknowledged the fact that they exist and navy pilots, active duty pilots have gone on the record in the New York Times acknowledging they exist. So the issue now is, why are they here? Where are they here? Where are they coming from and what is the technology behind these devices that we are observing?”
The NYT article Mellon refers to has been widely criticized for jumping to conclusions. The term ‘Unidentified Flying Object (UFO)’ is used to refer to any flying object that cannot be identified, it does not indicate that the object is in any way alien. Though navy pilots have reported UFO sightings, it’s possible this is simply evidence of a secret drone or aeroplane program.
Brian Kilmeade, rather than approach the issue sceptically, asked leading questions about the UFO’s extraterrestrial nature.
“Are there indications that these unidentified flying objects are doing things that this world is not capable of?” Kilmeade asked.
Mellon agreed that was the case and went on to cite the USS Nimitz incident, a supposed encounter with a UFO that has been subject to widespread scientific scepticism.
“You have a strong reputation,” Kilmeade told Mellon. “And a big title. And a huge resume. You say it’s actually happening. Has there been interaction being to being, human being to whatever these beings are?”
Mellon said there had been on contact with aliens, but treated the question as if it were perfectly normal for a morning news program.
