Trump Weirdly Congratulates Reporters for Defeating ISIS
There was a weird moment at an airport in Florida on Friday as President Trump disembarked from Air Force One at the beginning of a weekend at Mar-a-Lago.
Trump has spent the last couple of days flashing a map that supposedly shows the shrinking amount of terrirtory held by ISIS in Syria every time he is near a camera. He held it up for reporters as he left the White House to travel to Ohio for a speech on Wednesday. He held it up during that same speech in Ohio. His press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, also showed the map to reporters aboard Air Force One as it flew to Florida on Friday.
Then on the tarmac in Palm Beach, Trump showed the map again before handing it to a reporter while saying, “You can have the map. Congratulations.”
It remained unclear if the president was congratulating the reporter for beating ISIS or for being the beneficiary of Trump’s map-giving largesse.
On Fox News’ Outnumbered, Harris Faulkner suggested that the reporters were cheering. They were not. Faulkner was mixing them up with Trump supporters who had showed up to welcome Trump back to Florida.
The Outnumbered crew then went on to talk about what comes next now that ISIS has left Syria. Many of the fighters are believed to have filtered back into Iraq, where the group was originally founded. So it is anyone’s guess what the scattered remnants of ISIS will do next.
