Lying Liars Lied Incessantly At The GOP Debate And Nobody Cared
The sixth Republican debate held Thursday night was a typical show from the GOP field and Fox Business. Obama has destroyed the country, we will crush Hillary Clinton in the general election, and everything we say is the absolute truth, we swear to God. The problem, though, is none of that is true. Well, defeating Hillary could be true, but she has yet to win her party’s nomination.
Speculation aside, I don’t think I could recount the total number of lies that were told during the debate. There are numerous fact-checkers out there recounting the major ones. How Chris Christie supported Planned Parenthood, Common Core, and Sonia Sotomayor. How Trump claimed that most of the Syrian Refugees were big, strong men. How Rubio attacked Cruz’s oft-told immigration lies. There are so many more it would take me days to delve into them all and find all the resources to refute them adequately.
Here is one of the big problems with this debate besides the candidates inability to tell the truth. The moderators never called them out for those lies or challenged them on their false assertions. Well, why would they? It is FOX News after all, even if it is their business wing. They still have an agenda to push. Make the American public dumber, vote against their interests, and give all their money to the wealthy who don’t really need it.
So GOP Presidential candidates who appear on the FOX debate stage are allowed to state incorrectly that the strength of the military has diminished. Sure some of their budget went down, but that was because of a sequester that was put in place because neither side thought it was prudent to work together so they were punished for it. Putting all the blame on the President is just political pandering and falsehood of the greatest magnitude. It also doesn’t take into consideration the various upgrades and modernization the armed forces have undertaken during the last seven years.
To keep allowing these men and women to lie without repercussions is detrimental to our nation. It deteriorates the trust we are supposed to have in our President and the process. How can we trust the process when the moderators will not hold these people accountable immediately after they make a false statement. We have the internet and obviously the news agencies who host these events suspect the answers they are going to get for their questions. They should be ready to crush any lies they hear and destroy the chances of a habitual liar to be President.
Finally, how can Americans trust the President-elect when all they hear from their mouth when they run for the office are lies? Most of us are smart enough to not vote for that candidate, but if both candidates are allowed to get away with it, the populace becomes apathetic and untrusting. People then refuse to vote, which is something that is already happening. This may be an extreme thought, but when the people do not trust or like the people who are supposed to represent them, you have a higher chance of the people overthrowing that government.
