Started From The Bottom Now We’re Here: Kanye Keeps Falling Through The Floor

I cannot make this clearer: Kanye Omari West is a shameless stunt queen.

From that need for attention, to this rumored, self-confirmed bi-polar disorder, he went to the highest office in the land with a MAGA hat. He had this MAGA hat on in the same place where the most influential meetings have been held and executive orders signed! Kanye West went into the Oval Office, where these current legal evils where given the signet of power to implement. In this space, he gave President Trump a sketch of the plane Apple Inc. is supposed to be making to replace Air Force One.

During his ten-minute interaction, with the national and international media watching, Kanye spewed every thought he may have screamed at his television. It was cringe-worthy. It was alarming, and it confirmed the thoughts I had only admitted about him to myself. In the hit movie, Get Out, the audience learned what the Sunken Place is. It is redundant to reintegrate this at this moment, but this is interaction warrants a reminder. Kanye Omari West is a permanent resident of The Sunken Place! This is no longer up for debate or speculation.

In this meeting, Kanye mentioned his impending move to Chicago to help Larry Hoover. He mentioned the need to abolish the Thirteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution. Kanye talked about how his blackness can be assumed he isn’t a conservative (Note:  Kanye didn’t vote in the last election!). He talked about welfare and the plight of the black family. This space is not large enough to debunk every lie Kanye recited, so I will make my observation this.

This was a stunt on the part of President Trump and Kanye West. The nation is about thirty days from the midterm election. There are races such as those in Georgia between Stacey Abrams and Brian Kemp which is tighter than perhaps should be in a traditionally red state. The Black vote is needed to determine the fate of all seats available in gubernatorial and congressional races. Kanye sat across from the president, splitting attention between his iPhone and spinning alt-right alternative facts. It was amazing to watch. The same way watching someone bleeding to death and not believing they are. I imagine it was great for President Trump to see someone of stature, money and privilege believing everything he says!

In this rant, those of us who stomached the entire ten-minute word regurgitation only heard the same warped talking points. I saw the embodiment of everything I was taught never to become. I saw someone of some intelligence, of some character, debase it for want of attention.

More than a decade ago, Kanye told the world that President George W. Bush didn’t care about Black people during a telethon for Hurricane Katrina. He was willing to say this, because the policies and behaviors of then president lent itself to this truth. This current president doesn’t care anything about anyone non-white, non-binary and not white male. The same Kanye West went into this meeting with a cap that is the new millennium equivalent to a Ku Klux Klan hood. He then said this same hat made him ‘feel like Superman’ and made him better able to receive male energy! He acted like a child who doesn’t get to go anywhere. When he does, he’s so overstimulated and tries to say as much as he can before being told to leave.

In Get Out, the secret society of Coagula is uncovered. The word is a term found in alchemy — referring to something coming together; alchemy being the process of transmuting a base metal into gold. My grandmother would call it ‘making something that is, what it ain’t.’ Kanye West, with the same sharp observation given by Ta-Nehisi Coates, can be confirmed he desires to be white. Kanye believes with this money, influence and (waning) popularity he should transcend race. The plight of Black people is removed from him now. His money insulates him now. He can say what he desires now. That is what President Trump loves and exploits similar thinking Black people—this conscious disregard of empathy, intelligence and personal observation in favor or all things George Orwell foretold in 1984.

In parroting talking points, Kanye revealed himself to be less knowledgeable than ever thought. In his free-thinking, it is not backed up by facts. It is not supported by his actions. His observations are debunked by simple logic. His stance and indignation is deflated from those who have done research and work in the situations he tried to discuss.

Kanye West is beyond a disappointment. What the world has witnessed is the metamorphosis of ignorance and apathy. This behavior of a man whose mother was an educator. Whose mother opened her home to young men as gifted as he son. This from the same man that opened a non-profit in her honor. The same man, looked a man in the face that locked children in cages; tried to stop people who practice Islam from coming into the country; the same man that thought the Central Park Five should have been put to death, Kanye Wes told him that he loved and admired him.

This is not a mistake. This is not optics. This isn’t to push an album. This is Kanye being exactly whom he wants to be. And that should scare anyone that is not white.
