Shortly after it was reported that the Trump legal team had responded to Special Counsel Robert Mueller regarding his request to interview President Donald Trump, Fox News’ Harris Faulkner brought on Trump ally Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) to discuss the latest developments. The entire interview, meanwhile, was noteworthy for the friendly banter between the two and Faulkner fawning over the conspiracy-mongering lawmaker.
After getting the details of this latest development from chief White House correspondent John Roberts, Faulkner turned to Gohmert, who immediately began tearing into Mueller and painting him as a jealous partisan who is looking to interfere with the midterm elections.
“This is a guy who sat down, looked Trump in the face and says — basically begging him to appoint him again as director of the FBI,” Gohmert exclaimed. “And when he didn’t get it, he becomes special counsel of an area he is totally disqualified from because he was FBI director in part of the investigation into Russia trying to buy uranium that enabled Hillary to get CFIUS to approve the sale so they could make $125 million!”
He continued, “Mueller should be investigated! Instead, he is special counsel. This is a guy that doesn’t care. He is hoping he will affect the election and screw over the president.”
Apparently impressed, Faulkner responded by telling Gohmert “you always manage to break it down to some new category,” further asking the Texas lawmaker “have you driven us in a lane of flip the switch on Robert Mueller.”
“You say he wouldn’t care about politics anyway,” Faulkner further noted. “Lay conditions such that he wouldn’t accept. Wouldn’t he just slap the president’s team — the president with a subpoena and would that be better or worse?”
The ultra-conservative congressman said that would be the way Mueller looked at it, bragging that he personally “used to be a good lawyer.”
“You are on the Judiciary Committee!” Faulkner gushed. “You are an excellent lawyer!”
Gohmert made sure to point out that he was also a judge and chief justice back in the day as the Fox News host beamed.
Later on in the conversation, Gohmert accused the special counsel of “being willing to break the law to put people in jail.” This remarkable comment received no pushback or follow-up from Faulkner, as she merely said “I get it — I get it” in response.
The interview concluded with Faulkner asking if there was a “positive movement forward” for Trump with Mueller as it all seems like a “fruitless dance,” resulting in Gohmert calling for Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to be investigated because as long as he’s still around the president is “in trouble and justice is not being done.”
“Boy, have you given us a whole lot to think about and talk about now as you always do,” Faulkner said as the segment ended, adding hat Gohmert had “set us up for this hour.”
