Adam Schiff Says ‘Good Riddance’ as Attorney General Bill Barr Resigns
Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff has welcomed the resignation of Attorney General William Barr. He joins several other Democrats in criticizing the outgoing head of the Department of Justice following President Donald Trump’s announcement that Barr was leaving his post.
“Attorney General Bill Barr: Lied to cover for Trump. Launched political investigations. Subverted justice and the rule of law. And violently cracked down on protestors. So good riddance. Now, the work of restoring a credible and independent justice system must begin,” Schiff tweeted on Monday.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer joined in criticism of Barr, who was frequently criticized for being too close to Trump, though in recent days the president had lashed out at Barr on Twitter following reports that Hunter Biden, President-elect Joe Biden’s son, was being investigated for tax fraud.
“Barr diminished the integrity of his office, eroded the independence of the Justice Department, and substantially undermined his own reputation,” Hoyer said.
“Just had a very nice meeting with Attorney General Bill Barr at the White House. Our relationship has been a very good one, he has done an outstanding job! As per letter, Bill will be leaving just before Christmas to spend the holidays with his family,” Trump said on Twitter on Monday.
The White House told various media outlets that the meeting was cordial. However, Trump had taken aim at Barr because of his handling of unsubstantiated allegations against Hunter Biden and was reportedly incensed when the DOJ concluded there was no voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
