Biden Adds to Wisconsin Lead As Trump’s $3 Million Recount Wraps Up

A recount of votes in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin ended Friday with President-elect Joe Biden extending his lead over President Trump in the county by 132 votes, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

Biden’s total in the heavily Democratic area now stands at 317,527, while Trump received 134,482 votes.

Trump’s campaign spent $3 million dollars for a recount of votes in only the state’s most populous and Democratic-friendly counties of Milwaukee and Dane. The recount in the latter county is expected to conclude Sunday.

Milwaukee County Clerk George Christenson said last week that poll watchers for Trump were slowing down the process with their objections, the Associated Press reported.

“It’s not our job to train their observers on what they’re observing,” he said. “They clearly don’t know what they’re doing and so they keep asking questions. And we’ve said to the Trump campaign, you need to tell your people what you’re looking for here because they’re objecting to every ballot.”

On Friday, Christenson said the recount process was “transparent and fair.”

“There was an examination of every ballot by election workers, a meticulous recounting of every ballot that was properly cast, a transparent process that allowed the public to observe, a fair process that allows the aggrieved candidate who sought the recount an opportunity to observe and object to ballots they believe should not be counted,” he said.

Biden won Wisconsin by nearly 21,000 votes.
