Trump: Coronavirus Will Go Away with ‘A Herd Mentality’
President Donald Trump caused confusion on Tuesday by claiming COVID-19 would go away if people developed a ‘herd mentality’. He made the remarks during an ABC News town hall in Pennsylvania with the network’s George Stephanopoulos.
The President claimed that Coronavirus will go away without a vaccine over time, having previously claimed the disease would disappear like a ‘miracle.’ So far, almost 200,000 Americans have died due to the pandemic.
“You’ll develop, you’ll develop herd, like a herd mentality,” Trump said.

“It’s going to be, it’s going to be herd-developed, and that’s going to happen. That will all happen. But with a vaccine, I think it will go away very quickly.”
Observers have pointed out that Trump likely meant ‘herd immunity’ but this concept has already been dismissed as an unworkable solution for the Coronavirus at this time. A vaccine is currently considered to be the best option to tackle the disease.
The President’s comment is also an unfortunate slip of the tongue given that his critics often accuse his supporters of being cult-like in their support of him.
