Former Congresswoman Says Managing Coronavirus Would Be Easier If Trump ‘Just Shut Up’
Former Maryland congresswoman Donna Edwards suggested that President Donald Trump is doing more harm than good by making himself a central figure in the administration’s response to the coronavirus outbreak across the country.
Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Edwards told Chris Wallace that there is nothing wrong with questioning how this crisis is being handled at the top, adding that things would run more smoothly if Trump “just shut up.”
”
“Whenever we hear [White House coronavirus task force member Dr. Anthony Fauci] and other experts talk about this virus and about what to do, and what Americans can do, that actually is somewhat reassuring,” Edwards said. “But what we don’t get is that kind of reassurance coming directly from the president because of his contradictions, because…the information that he puts out is just not accurate.”
Edwards continued: “[Trump] would actually, I think, do better in terms of the public if he just shut up, because I don’t think people would necessarily blame the president for something that was out of his control, but if he…mismanages the crisis, then I think it’s a legitimate point of challenge by anyone who wants to be president saying, ‘I would manage it better.'”
