Sen. Coons: ‘Gravely Concerned’ About What Trump May Do Before 2020 Election If Acquitted
Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) expressed concerns about President Trump’s behavior should the Republican-led Senate fail to convict him of the two articles of impeachment working their way through the House.
Trump, Coons warned, would be “unbounded.”

“If he is ultimately exonerated in the Senate — if the Republican majority in the Senate refuses to discipline him through impeachment — he will be unbounded, and I am gravely concerned about what else he might do between now and the 2020 election,” Coons said on Meet the Press.
Coons was responding to a Politico article from Thursday that asked, “What happens when a remorseless president commits the same behavior that got him impeached in the first place — only this time after the House has already deployed the most potent weapon in its arsenal?”
The possibility that Trump may continue to seek election interference, and therefore Congress should not delay impeachment proceedings due to next year’s election, was stressed in the House Intelligence Committee’s report that gave rise to the articles of impeachment approved by the Judiciary Committee last week. The articles allege abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
