Maddow Beats Trump Rally Head-to-Head, Tops Cable News in Total Viewers and Demo
MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show was the most-watched program in cable news Wednesday night, beating President Donald Trump’s Louisiana campaign rally that took up almost the entirety of Fox News’ Hannity, which also airs at 9 PM ET.
According to Nielsen, Maddow averaged 640,000 in the key 25-54 demographic and 3.382 million total viewers to lead cable news across the board.
The left-leaning MSNBC program also finished as the top-rated show in all of cable and was the 10th most-watched in broadcast television.
Hannity placed third overall in total viewers with 3.298 million while also taking third in the key demo (521,000). Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight was second in both metrics, drawing 544,000 in the demo and 3.369 million viewers overall.
During the 8-11 PM primetime hours, Fox News pulled out the victory with 3.169 million total viewers and 500,000 in the key demographic. MSNBC averaged 478,000 in the demo and a total viewership of 2.641 million. CNN pulled in a total audience of 1.085 million and 275,000 demo viewers.
The top-rated program on CNN was Anderson Cooper 360, which drew 1.198 million viewers overall and 312,000 in the demo.
