LISTEN: Trump Suggests Whistleblower Should Be Executed For Treason
President Donald Trump railed against the whistleblower behind the bombshell complaint that was finally revealed to the public on Thursday, suggesting that the whistleblower was akin to a spy and should face punishment for treason, which would be execution.
Speaking at a private event on Thursday following the publication of the complaint that showed the president abused his power to seek election interference from Ukraine and had White House officials cover-up evidence, Trump stunned the staff of United States Mission to the United Nations when he said we need to treat the “spy” like we did in “the old days.”
“I want to know who’s the person who gave the whistle-blower the information because that’s close to a spy,” Trump said in comments first reported by the New York Times. “You know what we used to do in the old days when we were smart with spies and treason, right? We used to handle it a little differently than we do now.”
Elsewhere in the event, which was closed to reporters, Trump referred to the media as “scum” and “crooked” while whining about the coverage surrounding his now-infamous Ukraine call and whistleblower complaint, which has kickstarted an impeachment inquiry.
Trump’s remarks occurred while his acting Director of National Intelligence was testifying before the House Intelligence Committee, telling Congress that the president has never asked for the identity of the whistleblower.
