Billionaire John Catsimatidis Tells ‘Fox & Friends’ He’s Considering Running for New York Mayor
Billionaire and sometime Fox News guest John Catsimatidis said on Tuesday he’s considering running for mayor of New York. The businessman, who’s also a radio talk show host, previously sought the Republican nomination for mayor in 2013. He also reportedly considered a run as early as 2009.
He spoke to Fox & Friends about the situation in New York, tacitly criticizing Mayor Bill de Blasio. The show’s hosts have often levied criticism at the Mayor, as have other Fox personalities and guests.
“When you look at what’s happening in New York right now, dolls it make you want to run more for mayor or less?” co-host Brian Kilmeade asked.
“Somebody has to save New York,” Catsimatidis said. “New York is a mess. It’s going down hill at too fast a pace. I told the real estate industry yesterday that a trillion dollars worth of value has gone south.”
“When you are planning on raising taxes at the same time nobody’s paying rent, and values are going down, then you’re looking at a crash,” he said.
“So that means yes,” Kilmeade said, while another guest, a priest, agreed with the sentiment.
“We are considering it,” Catsimatidis said.
Mayor de Blasio term doesn’t expire until next year. He will be unable to run for the position again due to term limits.
