Trump on Accused Sex Trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell: ‘I Wish Her Well’
President Donald Trump caused a storm over night when he extended his well wishes to accused sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell. Maxwell was a close associate of convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and she faces charges related to recruiting underage girls for him.
Trump was asked about Maxwell at a press conference on Tuesday. It was meant to be the first of his new daily briefings on Coronavirus but clearly swerved into other topics.
“I just wish her well, frankly,” the President said.
“I’ve met her numerous times over the years, especially since I lived in Palm Beach and I guess they lived in Palm Beach… but I wish her well, whatever it is,” he said.
Trump also addressed the association between Maxwell and the UK’s Prince Andrew. So far, the British royal has not fully co-operated with U.S. authorities, though his attorneys have consistently claimed he is willing to work with investigators.
“I don’t know about the situation with Prince Andrew, I just don’t know, I’m not aware of it,” the President said.
Trump’s admission that he met Maxwell on several occasions seems unwise but there may be no other option. There is ample evidence of Trump’s meetings with Maxwell. He is one of several high profile men who were in Epstein’s orbit.
