CBS News: White House Has Not Approved Interview Requests for Dr. Fauci for Three Months
Dr. Anthony Fauci has not appeared on CBS’s Face the Nation in exactly three months, and anchor Margaret Brennan said Sunday that the White House has repeatedly denied their interview requests for the respected doctor during that time.
“We are committed to bringing you the facts about the virus and the most knowledgable guests that we can,” Brennan said.
“We think it’s important for our viewers to hear from Dr. Anthony Fauci and the Centers for Disease Control. But we have not been able to get our requests for Dr. Fauci approved by the Trump administration in the last three months, and the CDC — not at all. We will continue our efforts.”
During the early stages of the pandemic, Fauci was a staple on the Sunday shows, and was often viewed as a trustworthy presence in the White House to counterbalance President Trump’s erratic comments on the coronavirus. But Fauci’s media appearances have been scaled back, with a White House official saying in late April that Fauci and Dr. Deborah Birx will “take a back seat to the forward-looking, ‘what’s next’ message.”
But after a steady drop in reported coronavirus cases through the end of May, there has since been a resurgence, particularly in southern states, with some states’ reopening plans being scrapped and new social distancing orders being put in place.
