Pence ‘Would Be Happy’ to Have the Same Michael Flynn Who Lied to Him Back in Trump Administration
Vice President Mike Pence said he’d welcome Michael Flynn back into the Trump administration, even though Flynn was forced to resign as Trump’s national security adviser after it was revealed that he misled Pence about conversations with a Russian ambassador.
Pence recently said he’s “more inclined to believe” that Flynn unintentionally lied to him.
Axios co-founder Mike Allen asked Pence, “The president has talked about bringing him back in the administration. Is that fine with you?”
“I think General Michael Flynn is an American patriot,” Pence said. “He served this country with great distinction in uniform, and now I believe the decision by the Justice Department lays bare what was clearly prosecutorial abuse, and for my part, I’d be happy to see Michael Flynn again.”
The Justice Department on Thursday moved to drop charges against Flynn despite his two guilty pleas to lying to the FBI, a move which has sparked immense criticism, including from former President Barack Obama.
“I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI,” Trump wrote on Twitter in late 2017. “He has pled guilty to those lies. It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful. There was nothing to hide!”
