Trump Wants to Start Doing Day Trips Again Amid Coronavirus Pandemic
President Donald Trump reportedly wants to take his show back on the road. According to a new story in Politico, Trump has urged aides to start organizing events outside of Washington, D.C. despite the ongoing global pandemic.
The new reporting says the President wants his staff to ‘start adding official events back to his schedule, including photo ops and site visits that would allow him to ditch Washington for a few hours.’
Vice President Mike Pence has made similar trips to businesses during the crisis, though not without some criticism. Any day trip involving Trump would garner much more media attention, however, and it’s hard to see how health officials would square them with current restrictions.
The President recently complained that he hasn’t ‘left the White House in months’ despite having done campaign rallies in March. When confronted with this fact, he at first seemed to deny having held a rally at that time before brushing it off.
Any attempt to restart Trump’s normal event schedule would be part of his larger push to ‘reopen’ the economy. The President and his allies have pushed for easing of Coronavirus restrictions in order to help with the economic recovery, though health experts have warned the country shouldn’t open too quickly.
