Nancy Pelosi Blasts Trump: ‘He Shredded the Truth, So I Shredded His Speech’
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has justified her decision to tear up a copy of President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech. Speaking to her Democratic caucus, Pelosi gave an unimpressed assessment of Trump’s speech and talked about the now-viral moment she created.
“He shredded the truth, so I shredded his speech,” Pelosi said in a closed-door meeting.
She called Trump’s speech ‘a manifesto of mistruths’ during comments to House Democrats.
“You are supposed to talk about the state of the union, not the state of your alleged mind,” Pelosi said.
Democrats gave Pelosi a standing ovation following her remarks. The moment she ripped up the speech has become a topic of attacks from President Trump’s supporters, but it was likely a calculated move on the Speaker’s part which has won her praise from the President’s critics.
“She ripped it from top to bottom,” Democratic Rep. Lois Frankel said, referring to Pelosi’s treatment of Trump’s speech. Frankel was in the room and spoke to reporters after the meeting.
