John Kerry Blasts NBC for Claim He Was Considering Jumping into Presidential Race
Former Secretary of State John Kerry has harshly criticized NBC News following a report that he was considering making a late entry to the presidential race. NBC reported that Kerry had been overheard talking about ‘the possibility of Bernie Sanders taking down the Democratic Party — down whole.’
Kerry reportedly discussed jumping into the field because Senator Bernie Sanders was frightening Democratic donors. He later vociferously denied there was any truth to the story.
The veteran Democrat said he had no interest in running for president and ‘any report otherwise is f—ing (or categorically) false.’ Kerry later deleted the tweet with an expletive and published a longer statement on the issue, though it was still unflattering to NBC News.
“As I told the reporter, I am absolutely not running for president. Any report otherwise is categorically false. I’ve been proud to campaign with my good friend Joe Biden, who is going to win the nomination, beat Trump, and make an outstanding president,” Kerry’s statement said.
“This is a complete and total misinterpretation based on overhearing only one side of a phone conversation,” he said.
“A friend who watches too much cable called me wondering whether I’d ever jump into the race late in the game if Democrats were choosing an unelectable nominee. I listed all the reasons I could not possibly do that and would not — and will not under any circumstances — do that.”
Kerry was the Democratic nominee for president in 2004.
