Ukraine Whistleblower’s Lawyer Sends Cease and Desist Letter to Stop Trump’s Attacks on Him
The lawyer representing the anonymous whistleblower int the Ukraine military aid scandal has sent a cease and desist letter to the White House calling on President Donald Trump and his surrogates to stop attacking his client. The lawyer, Andrew Bakaj has said his client’s identity is irrelevant.
“I am writing out of deep concern that your client, the President of the United States, is engaging in rhetoric and activity that places my client, the Intelligence Community Whistleblower, and their family in physical danger,” the letter said.
“I am writing to respectfully request that you counsel your client on the legal and ethical peril in which he is placing himself should anyone be physically harmed as a result of his, or his surrogates’, behavior,” Bakaj wrote.
The letter was sent to White House Counsel Pat Cipollone on Thursday as attacks on the whistleblower have intensified. Trump and some Republican lawmakers have repeatedly called for the whistleblower to be publicly named – an act which would put him in danger, according to his lawyers.
Naming the whistleblower is part of Republicans’ strategy to discredit him and undermine the accusations against the President. However, a number of witnesses have already bolstered the charges and the readout of Trump’s call with the Ukrainian president undermines Trump’s defense.
