Clinton Praises Elijah Cummings in Veiled Swipe at Trump: ‘He Stood against Corrupt Leadership of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel’

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has praised the late Democratic Representative Elijah Cummings and apparently blasted President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. Clinton was giving a eulogy for the widely respected Baltimore congressman.

“It is no coincidence, is it, that Elijah Cummings shared a name with an Old Testament prophet, whose name meant in Hebrew ‘the lord is my god.’ And who used the power and the wisdom that God gave him to uphold the moral law that all people are subject to,” Clinton said.

“Like the prophet, our Elijah could call down fire from heaven—but he also prayed and worked for healing. He weathered storms and earthquakes, but never lost his faith.”

“Like that Old Testament prophet, he stood against corrupt leadership of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel,” she said in veiled reference to President Trump and his wife. Clinton’s remark won applause from the assembled mourners.

“He liked to remind all of us that you can’t get so caught up in who you are fighting that you forget what you are fighting for,” Clinton said.

The former Democratic presidential candidate’s remarks may further fuel speculation that she may enter the 2020 Democratic primary, though the idea remains a vague media theory.
