Judge Nap Destroys Fox Talking Point on ‘Secret’ Hearings: Republicans Wrote These Rules
Fox News judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano took apart a favorite talking point for Republicans and defenders of President Donald Trump on Thursday. Napolitano explained that the ‘secret’ hearing members of the House GOP disturbed yesterday was consistent with the rules and those rules were passed by Republicans.
“As frustrating as it may be to have these hearings going on behind closed doors, the hearings for which Congressman Schiff is presiding, they are consistent with the rules,” Napolitano told Fox & Friends.
“When were the rules written last? In January of 2015. And who signed them? John Boehner. And who enacted them? A Republican majority,” Napolitano pointed out.
Napolitano went on to explain that these hearings are not the impeachment inquiry but are merely evidence gathering. He has made this point before, but Fox News personalities have persisted in misrepresenting what’s going on.
“These are not the impeachment hearings. The impeachment hearings have to be held in public by the House Judiciary Committee. This is the initial interview of witnesses,” Napolitano said.
“He’s following the rules as frustrating as those rules are,” Napolitano said of Schiff.
Republicans and their media surrogates have repeatedly complaint about a lack of transparency in the impeachment process, going so far as to storm a SCIF on Wednesday.
