Shep Smith (Once Again) Fact-Checks Trump: He Has Built ‘No New Wall’
Fox News anchor Shep Smith once again delivered a brutal fact-check of President Donald Trump, telling Fox viewers on Wednesday that the president’s recent boast that his long-promised border wall was “going up very fast” was untrue.
The president lashed out on Wednesday afternoon over a Washington Post report that revealed that he’s become extremely eager to complete hundreds of miles of border wall in an effort to deliver a campaign promise to supporters ahead of the 2020 election. The Post, however, noted that only 60 miles of replacement barrier has been completed since Trump entered office, prompting the president to use eminent domain to seize land and telling officials he’d pardon them if they carried out any illegal orders.
After tweeting out a video that supposedly showed new wall being constructed, the president groused about the Washington Post story.
“Another totally Fake story in the Amazon Washington Post (lobbyist) which states that if my Aides broke the law to build the Wall (which is going up rapidly), I would give them a Pardon,” he tweeted. “This was made up by the Washington Post only in order to demean and disparage – FAKE NEWS!”

Smith, who has also seen himself firmly in the president’s crosshairs of late, said during his Wednesday broadcast that despite the president claims, “there’s no new wall.”
After pointing out that there has been little progress along the border and barriers haven’t been added to new areas, Smith noted that the Post reported that one White House official confirmed Trump’s pardon promise, directly contradicting the president’s “Fake News” assertion.
“The Post reports one official told The Washington Post that the president was joking,” Smith stated. “Just moments ago, the president tweeted that the report is, as he put it, fake news.”
He concluded: “The president also said in the tweet that the wall is going up rapidly. It is not. As we just reported, there’s no new wall. Only replacement for walls which were in need of repair or upgrade. Those are the facts.”
