CNN Analyst Accuses Bill Barr of ‘Shredding the Integrity’ of His Office by Covering Up for Trump

A CNN legal analyst blasted Attorney General Bill Barr for “shredding the normal integrity and gravitas of his office” during an appearance on Newsroom Friday morning.

Shan Wu, a former federal prosecutor, also told Jim Sciutto and Poppy Harlow that Barr is “unraveling” as he struggles to cover up having misled Congress and the public about the contents of the Mueller report before he released it.

Harlow had asked Wu to respond to a clip of Barr telling Jan Crawford of CBS that he disagrees with the argument that President Trump is “shredding our institutions…from my perspective, the idea of resisting a democratically elected president and basically throwing everything at him and really changing the norms on the grounds that we have to stop this president.”

Somewhere, Mitch McConnell was probably really enjoying this conversation.

Wu told Harlow and Sciutto that Barr was being a “loyalist” to the president and accused the attorney general of using partisan language: “There’s spying, now he’s actually using the term ‘the resistance.’ It’s really highly extraordinary.”

That’s one word for it.

Wu also suggested that Barr may have counted on Mueller not contradicting him publicly when Barr misrepresented the findings of the report with his initial four-page summary of it. Now that he has been “exposed” by the public release of the report, Barr has to “backtrack and come up with this alternative explanation that Mueller got it wrong. Which is news to us.”
