Trump Lashes Out at Humiliating NYT Story: Losing a Billion Dollars Was ‘Sport’
President Trump has responded to the blockbuster New York Times report that he lost over a billion dollars in a decade of business deals. Unsurprisingly, he is spinning that losing money was the point:
….you would get it by building, or even buying. You always wanted to show losses for tax purposes….almost all real estate developers did – and often re-negotiate with banks, it was sport. Additionally, the very old information put out is a highly inaccurate Fake News hit job!

“Sport.” That’s one way to describe, in the words of the Times, “los[ing] more money than any other American taxpayer.”
Note that Trump first appears to confirm the accuracy of the story by spinning losing money as the goal. Then almost as an afterthought he remembers to say that the story is “a highly inaccurate Fake News hit job!”
So which is it? His taxes showed huge losses on purpose, or the story dutifully reporting those losses is fake?
