Kellyanne Complains That Democrats Are Using Dead Migrant Children As ‘Political Pawns’
Weeks after CNN caught a ton of flak for Chris Cuomo’s 39-minute trainwreck interview with Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway, the network invited the senior White House aide on again to discuss, among other things, President Donald Trump’s claim that Democrats are to blame for the recent deaths on migrant children in American custody.
And this may come as an absolute shock to you, but Kellyanne provided a full-throated defense of the president while saying Democrats were the ones playing politics with the tragedies.
On Saturday, the president tweeted that any “deaths of children or others at the Border are strictly the fault of the Democrats and their pathetic immigration policies,” adding that if “we had a Wall” the migrants seeking asylum wouldn’t make the trek. Trump also tossed in some lies about the death of 7-year-old Jakelin Call for some good measure.
Any deaths of children or others at the Border are strictly the fault of the Democrats and their pathetic immigration policies that allow people to make the long trek thinking they can enter our country illegally. They can’t. If we had a Wall, they wouldn’t even try! The two…..

…children in question were very sick before they were given over to Border Patrol. The father of the young girl said it was not their fault, he hadn’t given her water in days. Border Patrol needs the Wall and it will all end. They are working so hard & getting so little credit!

Appearing on State of the Union this morning, Conway was immediately asked about the president’s remarks, which also happened to be his first comments on the deaths of these two migrant children. After saying the deaths were a “tragedy,” Conway said Trump “point is an important one” before going on a tangent about the need for more border security.
Guest host Dana Bash interjected to attempt to get Conway to focus on Trump’s tweet, noting that the “only thing he has said is something that is very political and, frankly, misleading with regard to Democrats being culpable for the deaths.”
Conway responded by stating that the United States “cannot absorb” all the asylum-seeking migrants coming in from Central America and that “unfortunately and very tragically, it does result in some deaths.” Bash pointed out that the government itself has refuted the president’s claim that these children were ill before they were taken into custody before looking to move on to another subject, causing Conway to push back.
“I don’t want to move on from the children’s death and what the president is saying because I think this is very important,” the veteran pollster exclaimed. “I don’t like some of the Democrats using these deaths as political pawns.”
“But isn’t that exactly what the president just did?” Bash countered.
“No. The president is not doing that,” Conway said with a serious face. “The president does not want these children to come on a perilous journey to begin with. They are paying — now some of them are paying the ultimate price but many of them are paying these coyotes who don’t give a wit about human life.”
And folks, this is the reason why you don’t bring Kellyanne Conway on the begin with. Because this is what you are going to get.
