Trump Didn’t Want To Renominate Fed Chair Because She Was Too Short
President Donald Trump questioned Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen’s abilities because she was too short, according to reports. Yellen is 5′ 3” and a former economics professor with a doctorate from Yale. She was appointed to head the Fed by Barack Obama.
Trump reportedly made comments about Yellen’s height and suggested that she was not the right person to lead the Fed because she was so short. Trump discussed the matter with aides and apparently asked them if they agreed with him about her height.
Yellen was not renominated, though this is likely because aides in the administration wanted to replace her, perhaps because she was an Obama appointee or because they wanted a clean sweep with for the President. Yellen was succeeded by Jerome Powell, who has pursued largely similar policies.
President Trump is particularly interested in people’s appearance. Trump reportedly dislikes National Security Adviser John Bolton because of his mustache and has recently compared himself with Elvis Presley. Trump has a history of commenting on people’s looks, especially women.
Before becoming President, Trump had frequently described women as dogs and pigs, including long-time rival Rosie O’Donnell. Just this year, Trump referred to former aide Omarosa Manigault Newman as a dog following her departure from the White House.
“When you give a crazed, crying lowlife a break, and give her a job at the White House, I guess it just didn’t work out. Good work by General Kelly for quickly firing that dog!” Trump tweeted at the time.
According to numerous reports, Trump frequently mocks White House staff when they are not in the room and once called former Attorney General Jeff Sessions ‘mentally retarded‘ and mocked his southern accent.
