Trump Thanks Rand Paul For Having His Back On Disastrous Putin Summit: ‘You Really Get It!’
In the wake of a joint news conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin that Sen. John McCain has called “one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president in memory,” President Donald Trump has not seen too many Republicans on Capitol Hill coming to his defense for siding with Putin and giving him cover regarding Russian election interference.
One notable exception has been Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who before the Helsinki summit brushed off the Russian cyberattacks by saying “we all do it” while calling the Mueller investigation a “witch hunt.” Following Trump’s disastrous presser, Paul went on CNN for a tense interview in which anchor Wolf Blitzer grilled him on whether he believed Putin over the nation’s intelligence community (something Paul wouldn’t answer). He followed that up with a similar hit on CBS This Morning.
With Paul defending the president throughout the CNN and CBS interviews while downplaying Russian election interference, Trump decided to give the libertarian senator some dap Tuesday morning.
Thank you @RandPaul, you really get it! “The President has gone through a year and a half of totally partisan investigations – what’s he supposed think?”

Quoting Paul saying it was understandable that the president questions the findings that Russia because he “has gone through a year and a half of totally partisan investigations – what’s he supposed to think?”, Trump thanked the Kentucky lawmaker while exclaiming “you really get it!”
Interestingly, the president would delete the tweet a short time later and send it out again without the “you really get it” part.
