Trump Wants Frequent Military Parades In Big Cities – Just Like Vladimir Putin
President-elect Donald Trump wants military parades in major American cities to celebrate his inauguration and the beginning of his presidency. Trump says he wants to show off American strength as he plans to improve America’s military strength, which he wrongly believes is ‘depleted.’
“Being a great president has to do with a lot of things, but one of them is being a great cheerleader for the country,” Trump told The Washington Post. “And we’re going to show the people as we build up our military, we’re going to display our military.”
“That military may come marching down Pennsylvania Avenue. That military may be flying over New York City and Washington, D.C., for parades. I mean, we’re going to be showing our military,” Trump said.
The idea of hosting frequent military displays in major American cities and in the capital city itself has outraged and worried many commentators. While Americans are used to celebrating military veterans, the idea of military displays on a regular basis smacks of authoritarianism.
Vast military displays are common in Vladimir Putin’s Russia, Communist China and North Korea. Trump has falsely claimed that the US military is depleted, when in fact it is the biggest and most powerful in the world. Trump’s wish to see more displays of military strength and associating them with his presidency is eerily reminiscent of dictatorial regimes.
