Trump Blames American Spies For Leaking ‘Fake News’ About His Russian Connections
President-elect Donald Trump has accused American intelligence agencies of leaking fake news about him following allegations that Russia has compromising information on him and that his surrogates had high level contacts with Russian officials.
“I win an election easily, a great “movement” is verified, and crooked opponents try to belittle our victory with FAKE NEWS. A sorry state!” Trump said on Twitter. “Intelligence agencies should never have allowed this fake news to “leak” into the public. One last shot at me. Are we living in Nazi Germany?”
This is not the first time Trump has attacked US intelligence agencies. He mocked the CIA’s claim that Russia was responsible for election hacking and wrongly claimed that the Republican National Committee was not hacked. A dossier on Russian dealings with Trump is potentially very damaging, but as yet unverified.
“We should be concerned that intelligence officials leak to the press and won’t go and tell the president-elect or the president of the United States himself now, Mr Obama, what the information is,” Trump’s former campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said to late night host Seth Meyers yesterday. “They’d rather go tell the press.”
Trump’s decision to attack the US intelligence community is a strange reaction to the accusations levied against him but he has denied that he has ever had dealings with Russia.
