Mexico Won’t Be Paying For The Border Wall – You Will
President-elect Donald Trump has revealed that Mexico will not pay for the border wall. Trump said that the wall will be built and that Mexico will pay the United States back when it is completed. Mexican leaders have repeatedly said they will not pay for a border wall.
The Trump administration will seek to fund the wall through tax dollars, despite Trump’s campaign promises to make Mexico pay and the rallying cry of “Build that wall!” at Trump’s many rallies. Since Mexico has made clear it will not pay for any wall, construction will become the burden of the American taxpayer.
“The dishonest media does not report that any money spent on building the Great Wall (for sake of speed), will be paid back by Mexico later!” Trump tweeted. The president-elect clearly believes the wall should be built as quickly as possible.
However, there is uncertainty about where the money will come from. Now that Republicans control all three branches of the federal government, the GOP leadership will prioritize cutting government spending. Repeal of the Affordable Care Act is Congress’ top priority.
There has been little discussion among Congressional Republicans about building a border wall. The cost of a wall along the length of the Mexican-American border would likely be prohibitive. It now appears the cost, as yet undetermined, will be borne by the taxpayer.
