Did You Vote Early? Donald Trump Wants You To Change Your Vote
Donald Trump has asked voters who cast their ballots early to change their votes. Some states allow early voters to change their vote before election day. Trump has wrongly claimed that people are now allowed to change their vote because of the FBI’s decision to look again at Hillary Clinton’s emails.
“You can change your vote in six states. So, now that you see that Hillary was a big mistake, change your vote to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump tweeted. In some states, it will be possible for voters to change their preference before November 8th but it is unlikely those who voted for Clinton would opt for Trump.
Trump claimed that the FBI director’s announcement about ‘pertinent’ new information found on Anthony Weiner’s computer had led some states to allow early voters to change their vote. This is not the case. Some state laws already allow changes in early voting choices. No state has changed its law because of the FBI decision.
Early voting usually favors Republicans. Demographic groups leaning Republican tend to make more use of early voting. This year, however, early voting trends show good signs for Hillary Clinton. A high turnout from women voters will likely benefit the Democrats.
Republicans in early voting states have not been especially loyal to Donald Trump. The Democrats are banking on early votes in swing states like Florida to help Clinton in the closing days of the campaign. National polls show Trump and Clinton in a virtual tie.
