Fox’s Charles Krauthammer: Muslims Have Been Treated With Respect And Restraint Since 9/11
Of course, it should come as no surprise that someone on the Fox News channel has no idea what they’re talking about, but then when you are allowed to just blatantly lie about something because your network wants people to swallow the lie doesn’t help. Sunday night, after President Obama made his address to the nation concerning the attack in San Bernardino and the continuing fight against Daesh/ISIS/ISIL, Charles Krauthammer began his usual criticism of everything the President said.
I understand that since Fox only supports Republicans and Republican talking points they are going to be in opposition to the President in everything he says or does, but the least they could do is attempt to tell the truth. Unfortunately, Mr. Krauthammer doesn’t feel that is necessary. While criticizing the President’s call for non-discrimination against Muslims, he said that America has been “unbelievably respectful and restrained.”
Really? Unbelievably respectful and restrained? I can’t believe anyone would have had the balls to say that, especially with the current climate, let alone the history of hate crimes that have happened against Muslims in this country since September 11th, 2001. I know tempers and passions become inflamed when terrorist actions occur against any nation, and that people will react badly after such an occurrence, but to say we have been respectful and restrained is just stupid.
Right after 9/11, hate crimes spiked by 1600% in America against Muslims. Rightly, President Bush talked many people back into reason by telling people something they should have already known. Muslims were not our enemies, the terrorists were. I may not have liked President Bush, but this is something he did very right. If we needed more proof of this, even the FBI’s statistics prove that Muslims are not even close to the largest perpetrators of crime. There are numerous papers and reports, even from Homeland Security, that state that the largest threat to the country comes from right-wing extremists.
But, let’s get back to this comment. Would you consider threatening to firebomb mosques and murder children “restrained”? How about constant threats to shoot them and their places of worship? Certainly, smearing feces on a mosque in Austin, Texas isn’t restrained or respectful. All of those incidents can be verified here. And speaking of Texas, Irving has had a contingent of armed demonstrators outside their mosque since the attack in Paris. The armed, mask wearing lunatics have shadowed American citizens to and from the mosque in an attempt to intimidate them as they come and go while practicing their religious freedom.
A lot of right-wing pundits and speakers decry the left saying there is no proof that Muslims have seen any significant backlash in this country since September 11th. Charles Krauthammer and the rest of them are wrong. It could have been worse here, but this country has not been “unbelievably respectful and restrained.”
