Kellyanne Conway Links Trump’s ‘Drugged Up Loser’ Tweet To POTUS Fighting The Opioid Crisis
President Donald Trump began his weekend with a series of tweets in which he slammed a New York Times article on his personal attorney Michael Cohen. After writing that reporter Maggie Haberman was a “Crooked H flunkie” who never spoke to him, the president referred to one of the sources used in the piece as a “drunk/drugged up loser.”
Appearing on CNN’s State of the Union this morning, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway was asked about the president’s tweet and who he was talking about (it is widely believed he’s referring to former advisor Sam Nunberg). And Conway gave a very, umm, interesting take on Trump’s social media post.
“You talk about diversions,” guest host Dana Bash said. “The president is to blame for some with his twitter feed. One example I mention this he talked about news media coverage of Michael Cohen. In part of that tweet, ‘They say they use non-existent sources and a drunk/drugged up loser.’ Who is he talking about?”
“I don’t know who he is talking about there,” Conway responded before immediately shifting the conversation to how “proud” she is that the president “has led the charge” in the fight against the opioid crisis.
“He just secured $6 billion in the budget,” she continued. “We have a whole of government approach. President Trump is inviting everybody to share stories. Everybody can share their stories and CNN should look at the stories.”
Bash pointed out that CNN has done whole interviews on that topic only for Conway to bring up the president’ deceased brother’s issues with substance abuse. Bash then tried valiantly to shift Conway back to the question at hand.
“Given that, why would he tweet out attacking somebody as drunk and drugged up as a negative sort of attack and you won’t say who it is?” Bash asked.
“I don’t know who he is referring to there,” the White House aide shot back.
After Bash pressed again on who Trump was referencing and why he won’t own it, Conway claimed the president was owning it and said one could read the article to find out, all while snarking “CNN will be talking about it for the next week.”
Conway then went on to whine about Democrats not confirming Trump’s nominees and how it relates to foreign policy with North Korea and how CNN won’t cover all of this because of course.
