Mitch ‘The Turtle’ McConnell Is Hiding His Head From All Talk Of Trump
Mitch McConnell has been conspicuously mute on the subject of Donald Trump.
Rather than discuss his party’s astonishing hijacking by a sociopathic dictator wannabe, McConnell has metaphorically put on headphones to drone out the sound of his party’s nosedive toward electoral catastrophe under Donald Trump’s egomaniac piloting. What a cuckservative.
When asked if Trump is qualified for the presidency, McConnell replied, “I’ll leave that to the American people to decide.”
Why does McConnell have a leadership position in our democratic republic if he is neither willing to be a philosophical republican (small-R, in the traditional sense) nor exert a democratic voice on our democratic election? No offense, Kentucky, but maybe you should pick a more assertive senator.
Paul Ryan is also ambiguously neither embracing Trump nor un-endorsing the wannabe dictator. Wisconsin, please trade Ryan for a representative willing to put country first, or at least willing to share publicly his opinion on current events.
Together, they make up the core of a gutless Republican Congressional leadership unwilling to upset the mob of sexist racists that has become the Republican Party’s voting base. How do they sleep at night knowing that they are ignoring their moral, existential duty to stand up to offensive bigotry?
I understand they feel it is in their political advantage to neither piss off nor encourage Trump’s Deplorables, but isn’t it in their political advantage to live in a country that does not descend into Rome-esque, imperial self-destruction?
The reality is that the Republicans unwilling to endorse Trump ought to either cut their losses and start a new conservative party, or politically exile Trump and relieve him of the nomination he is demonstrably too immature to possess.
Ryan and McConnell ought to listen to their nagging guilty consciences and honor their responsibility to ensuring America remains a civil, stable and free nation. Their refusal to exert any opinion at all regarding Trump proves that other Republicans should have their jobs.
