Hillary Clinton Couldn’t Keep A Straight Face About Donald Trump Dating Ivanka
Hillary Clinton played a game with Jimmy Kimmel last night in a lighthearted moment for the presidential campaign. Clinton picked Donald Trump quotes from a bowl and tried to read them with a straight face. She did well until she reached one particularly infamous quote from the Republican candidate.
Kimmel read it instead while Clinton tried to keep a straight face. “‘I’ve said if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.'” The remark was made in 2006, long before Trump ran for president, but was widely publicized early on in his campaign. Bizarre statements have become a hallmark of the Trump campaign.
Clinton also addressed the conspiracy theories about her health. “I do feel sometimes like this campaign has entered into an alternative universe,” she told Kimmel. “I have to step into the alternative reality and, you know, answer questions about, am I alive, how much longer will I be alive, and the like.”
Kimmel was eager to help Clinton disprove Trump’s claims. Clinton opened a pickle jar to prove she was healthy enough to be president and debunk conspiracy theories. Both she and Kimmel avoided the obvious joke about Trump’s hands being too small to open jars.
Clinton’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel was not widely publicized. It was a low key media appearance for the candidate, who rarely does interviews and hasn’t held a press conference in eight months. Her campaign has used surrogates to attack Trump and allowed the Republican to make a series of unforced errors. Clinton’s willingness to do comedy bits may be part of a new strategy to humanize her in the eyes of voters.
