Trump Encourages People in North Carolina to Vote Twice
President Donald Trump suggested that voters in North Carolina should cast their ballots twice in November’s elections, first by mail and then in person. Voting twice is illegal in the United States and a felony in North Carolina.
His comments come as part of his continued attack on the security of mail-in ballots.
“Let them send it in and let them go vote,” the President said in an interview with WECT-TV in Wilmington on Wednesday. “And if the system is as good as they say it is then obviously they won’t be able to vote [in person].”
The Attorney General of North Carolina was quick to point out that Trump was encouraging people to commit a crime. Josh Stein, a Democrat, took to Twitter to explain why voters in the state should not try to cast their ballot more than once.
“Today, President Trump outrageously encouraged NCians to break the law in order to help him sow chaos in our election,” Stein said.

U.S. Attorney General William Barr later defended the President, claiming again that mail-in ballots could be vulnerable to fraud, despite a lack of evidence for this. Barr also claimed he didn’t know voting twice was a felony in North Carolina.
“I don’t know what the law in the particular state says,” he said.
