Despite What He Says, Donald Trump’s Ego Won’t Allow Him To Skip Thursday’s Debate
After a bunch of back and forth over the past several days with Fox News, Republican Presidential frontrunner and menstruating expert Donald Trump blew up at an event in Iowa. The celebrity billionaire has spent the past week trying to bully the network into removing anchor Megyn Kelly as a moderator in Thursday’s GOP debate. Network chief Roger Ailes has refused to do so and has said Kelly is locked in for Thursday night.
Trump, who has kept a feud running with the Fox host ever since the election season’s first debate when Kelly asked him a question about his history of sexism and misogyny, took to his social media accounts on Tuesday to ask his supporters whether he should boycott the debate. In an Instagram video, he whined about how biased Kelly is to him, because as we all know, she had the audacity to not treat him ‘fairly,’ which is Trump for “kiss my ass, lob me softballs and tell me how great my polls are.”
Anyway, in response to Trump’s poll, Fox News released a statement trolling the real estate mogul pretty hard. Following up on previous comments where the network said The Donald was showing “fear” and that he wouldn’t be able to pick his journalists if he were President, Fox snarked that they had heard both Iran and Putin don’t intend to treat Trump fairly.
Of course, the short-fingered vulgarian couldn’t take that laying down, as his whole campaign is built on him always winning, so he ranted at a campaign event that he was likely not going to show up on Thursday. He further opined that he may put together some event that would raise money for charity to compete heads up with Fox. Just for good measure, he tossed some insults at both the network and Kelly, even though the Fox anchor has stayed out of the fray the whole time he’s attacked her. (Trump really is a bastard for making Megyn Kelly a sympathetic character in all of this.) His campaign manager later told the press Trump was definitely out for Thursday.
But, this is all for show. Fox knows it. Trumpy knows it. And the rest of America should know it by now. There is no way the former reality TV star is going to allow himself to not participate in the most watched primetime block in cable that night. Even if he gets CNN and MSNBC to broadcast one of his rambling stump speeches heads up against the debate, Fox will bring in millions of more viewers. His ego wouldn’t be able to handle being a loser.
No, he just is looking for a ‘win’ here. Some kind of concession from Fox News. Something he can go to the press and say, “See, this was all I wanted.” It will be meaningless, but he’ll get to pound his chest and show his supporters that he’s the BOSS. Megyn Kelly will be there Thursday night. So will The Donald. And they’ll have some moment together. That much is certain.
