Trump Claims He Was Treated Worse Than Lincoln, Praises Statue Instead of Assassinated President

President Donald Trump claimed he’d been treated worse than Abraham Lincoln during a Fox News interview on Sunday. Sitting beneath the statue of the 16th president at his memorial in Washington, D.C. Trump said he’d received worse press than the assassinated leader.

“I am greeted with a hostile press the likes of which no president has ever seen,” Trump said.

“The closest would be that gentleman right up there,” he said, indicated Lincoln’s statue.

“They always said nobody got treated worse than Lincoln. I believe I am treated worse.”

Lincoln was infamously assassinated at the end of the Civil War by John Wilkes Booth, an actor who sympathized with the Confederacy and rejected the idea of voting rights for former slaves.

In a strange moment, Trump explained why he’d chosen the Lincoln Memorial for the interview. Instead of praising Lincoln, the President lauded the statue.

“This is a great work of art, aside from the fact that that was a great man, this is a great work of art, one of the greatest sculptures,” Trump explained.
