MSNBC’s Willie Geist: Trump ‘Walks Through the Fire Like a Martyr in the Eyes of Republicans’
MSNBC’s Willie Geist explained that the White House is looking at President Donald Trump’s acquittal this week as a major victory. Speaking on Morning Joe, Geist suggested that Trump and his administration will be emboldened by the Senate.
“The White House says privately their position now is that Democrats came at the king twice and missed,” Geist said.
“First with the Mueller investigation. They survived that. I mean, there’s a lot of evidence that there was wrongdoing there and now he’s going to survive impeachment. So he walks through the fire like a martyr in the eyes of Republicans.”
“You know what, though?” Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough said. “I remember people, people like tearing their hair out and putting on sack cloth and ashes before 2018, because Donald Trump was sending troops to the border and he was talking about people coming in and a lot of his Trumpists were talking about illegal immigrants with leprosy coming to the border and the caravans and everybody shocked, how can he do this and he’s gonna get away with it?”
“No. Biggest landslide for a midterm election against Donald Trump and Republicans. There is a check and it’s called the American vote.”
