Joe Scarborough: The Democratic Establishment Is ‘Freaking Out’ Over ‘the Rise of Bernie Sanders’
Ahead of the Democrat caucuses in Iowa on Monday, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough speculated that Senator Bernie Sanders could win the crucial contest and cause a headache for the Democratic Party establishment. The Morning Joe host was speaking from Iowa.
“The Democratic establishment, I think the political term you would use is freaking out right now over the rise of Bernie Sanders,” Scarborough said.
“And that’s exactly why Michael Bloomberg decided to jump into the race,” Scarborough said. “Now, if Biden finishes second tonight, then the calculation doesn’t look as good. If it is a fourth-place finish, we’re gonna be hearing a lot more of Michael Bloomberg over the coming weeks.”
“The panic in the Democratic establishment you’re describing now, imagine it 24 hours from now,” Morning Joe regular Willie Gesit said. “As we sit here, if he’s in fourth place? If Joe Biden is in fourth place. Imagine.”
“It’s the parallel with 2016, right, with Republicans freaking out at this point about Donald Trump,” Scarborough said.
Polls show Sanders is likely to win the Iowa caucuses tonight, but the contest remains close and it’s not certain where former Vice President Joe Biden will finish.
