John Bolton Was ‘Regularly Appalled’ By Trump’s Behavior, Report Claims
Former National Security Adviser John Bolton was ‘regularly appalled‘ by President Donald Trump, according to a new report from the Washington Post. Citing two unnamed sources close to Bolton, the newspaper said that he wasn’t sure if Trump was acting in the national interest.
A person familiar with Bolton’s forthcoming book told the Washington Post that Bolton wasn’t sure if Trump was acting in America’s interest or for ‘nefarious’ goals – a charge that will ring true with those critics of the President who have alleged similar motivations for years.
Bolton’s book contains the explosive allegation that Trump directly linked Ukraine military aid to investigations of former Vice President Joe Biden, a claim Trump denies. As more and more information comes out about Bolton’s time in the administration, pressure is growing to call him as a witness in the impeachment trial.
Senate Republicans have been reluctant to allow any witnesses but the steady news reports concerning Bolton may soon make it impossible to avoid issuing him with a subpoena. Bolton has said he will attend if required to do so and his testimony is likely to be damaging to the President.
Bolton has been painted as a left-wing stooge by some of Trump’s most loyal supporters, but this is a charge that won’t stick. Bolton is a notorious foreign policy hawk with solid conservative credentials – a resumé that will make his testimony all the more devastating.
