Vladimir Putin: Trump Is Being Impeached for a ‘Far-Fetched Reason’ and Won’t Be Removed
Russian President Vladimir Putin has predicted that President Donald Trump will not be removed by the Senate. During his annual question and answer session, Putin criticized impeachment and accurately described the attitude of Senate Republicans.
“The party that lost the election is continuing the fight by other means,” Putin said of the Democrats.
He compared impeachment to the Special Counsel’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Russia has always denied that it interfered and suggested that the facts are in reality a conspiracy. Russia has also spread conspiracies about Ukrainian involvement in the election.
Putin pointed out that impeachment “is yet to pass the Senate where the Republicans have a majority.”
“They will be unlikely to remove a representative of their own party from office on what seems to me an absolutely far-fetched reason,” Putin said.
The Russian president’s assessment of the situation in the Senate is accurate. There is little realistic prospect that Republicans there will vote to remove Trump.
Putin’s country is responsible for spreading disinformation about Ukraine which has now found its’ way into Republican talking points and on Wednesday onto the floor of the House of Representatives.
