Russian Agents Celebrated Trump’s Election with Champagne: ‘We Made America Great’
Russian agents celebrated Donald Trump’s victory in the 2016 presidential election by drinking champagne and bragging that they had made America great, according to a report released by the Senate Intelligence Committee. The committee concluded Russia had interfered in the election to benefit Trump.
The Senate Intelligence Committee obtained communications from an employee of the Internet Research Agency (IRA) – the Russian group that flooded U.S. social media with misleading information, pro-Trump propaganda and anti-Hillary Clinton memes in 2016.
“When around 8am the most important result of our work arrived, we uncorked a tiny bottle of champagne … took one gulp each and looked into each other’s eyes,” the IRA operative said.
“We uttered almost in unison: ‘We made America great.'”
The Senate report, published on Tuesday, confirmed what U.S. intelligence agencies had already found: Russian interference in the election was ‘overtly and almost invariably supportive of then-candidate Trump‘ and aimed against Clinton.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly denied that Russia interfered in the election. The current impeachment inquiry is connected to his ongoing denials and his pursuit of conspiracy theories that would back up his claim and undermine the Senate’s findings.
